Description
Resveratrol, a polyphenol found in red grapes and wine, has garnered a lot of attention lately for its nutritional properties. Indeed resveratrol has displayed a great deal of potential for supporting antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, as well as multiple aspects of cardiovascular health. These suppositories provide a much more substantial and bioavailable dose of resveratrol when compared to red wine.
- Contains 441 mg of trans-resveratrol from polygonum cuspidatum.
- Balanced nutritional support of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.
- Supports blood flow and other standard features of a healthy cardiovascular system.
- Suppositories provide a larger and more bioavailable dose of resveratrol than wine or oral supplements.
- Suppositories can be shipped with ice to ensure preservation of shape and potency.
Resveratrol – The Renowned Antioxidant
Resveratrol belongs to a class of polyphenols known as stilbenes. Stilbenes are most commonly found in the skin of red grapes as well as in red wine. When people discuss the potential health benefits of drinking a glass of wine each day, they are often referring to wine’s exceptionally high resveratrol content.
The antioxidant properties of resveratrol have caused it to garner a great deal of positive attention from nutritional experts. Antioxidants are required in the body to stabilize unbalanced electrons in free radicals. If the amount of free radicals within a given area of the body greatly out measures the amount of antioxidants then oxidative stress will occur. Resveratrol works throughout the body as one of many countermeasures against this oxidization.1
Resveratrol Heart Health Support
In addition to its antioxidant properties, resveratrol is also thought to support anti-inflammatory activity. It achieves this by supporting the activation of SIRT1, a gene which is largely responsible for the regulation of inflammation in the body.2 One particular bodily system which is thought to benefit from the anti-inflammatory support of resveratrol is the cardiovascular system. Inflammation restricts blood flood and thus contributes to a number of serious heart health concerns.
Resveratrol is also thought to upregulate endothelial nitric oxide synthase. The endothelium, an inner lining of the blood vessels, uses nitric oxide as a signal to the surrounding muscle to relax, thus supporting improved blood flow.3
The Bioavailability of Resveratrol
Some experts think that the question of whether or not resveratrol can provide substantial nutritional support to a healthy functioning heart is a question of its bioavailability. For example: a liter of red wine contains roughly 12.59 mg resveratrol, whereas as some studies that have shown positive results from resveratrol supplementation utilized as much as 2,000 mg per day.4 Suffice to say, no health experts would recommend that much wine consumption (over 166 liters) for any person on any day!
These suppositories contain a much higher dose of resveratrol (441 mg taken twice daily) than wine. Not only that, but they also provide much higher absorption rates by releasing their contents directly into the porous tissues of the lower bowels, avoiding any degradation in the digestive system that inevitably occurs with wine or oral supplement consumption.
