A Brief History of Golden Milk and Its Health Benefits

If you’ve grown up in the west, it’s no big surprise that you’ve never heard of ‘golden milk’. Even just the pairing of words sounds strange, and oddly appetizing. Meanwhile, this potent beverage has been used in ayurvedic health practices in countries like India, Pakistan, and China for hundreds and hundreds of years (if not thousands!). If you think the name sounds appetizing, then just wait till you hear about the health benefits.

Principally, golden milk is just turmeric, either in powder or juice form, mixed with natural milk (cow, coconut, goat, etc). However, it is also traditional to add regional spices like ginger and cinnamon. The rich, spicy flavors of the drink are similar to a chai tea latte, but unlike chai, golden milk contains no caffeinated tea leaves.

Given the lack of caffeine, it might be surprising to hear that golden milk is still commonly consumed for its energizing and focus-inducing properties. While it’s unlikely that golden milk will have as significant of an impact on these factors as caffeine in most recipients, the use of golden milk as a kick-starter to your busy day is not without scientific merit.

Turmeric is a rich source of curcumin. This is crucial to understanding the health benefits of golden milk because curcumin is such a powerhouse nutrient with so many different positive effects in the human body. The primary effect of curcumin is its support of anti-inflammatory activity. Inflammation affects all of our bodies every single day. It can cause issues for healthy digestion, the cardiovascular system, and cognitive function.1 By helping the body to resist this damage, golden milk serves as a useful caffeine alternative which can generate both short-term and long-term health benefits.

Golden Fusion – A New Take on an Old Recipe

The wait is over. Metagenics has finally crafted an advancement of this ancient remedy. However, Golden Fusion isn’t looking to reinvent the wheel here. Rather, Golden Fusion takes all the same ingredients you might expect to find in the most traditional golden milk recipe and perfects them to optimize their health benefits.

For example, Golden Fusion includes a small dose of black pepper. This ingredient might be a bit out of place in traditional preparations, but it has been included here for the sake of enhancing bioavailability. One study in particular has found that bioperine enhances the serum concentration, extent of absorption and bioavailability of curcumin in both rats and humans.2

In addition, Golden Fusion features CurQfen®, a highly bioavailable form of curcumin with fenugreek along with grass-fed† collagen peptides. Anyone can crack open their spice cabinet and whip-up a homemade golden milk, but without this careful attention to detail the health benefits won’t be nearly as distinct.
