Description

Genistein is both a phytoestrogen and an antioxidant which is capable of providing nutritional support across multiple bodily systems. To access the cells of the body where it is needed most, genistein must be absorbed directly. Zetpil Genistein 98% sustained release suppositories are designed to be fully absorbed through the porous tissues of the lower bowels.

  • Supports the natural function of estrogen receptors.
  • Helps to neutralize free radicals and aids in reduction of oxidative stress.
  • Supports the production of the antioxidant superoxide dismutase.
  • Sustained release suppositories provide direct absorption rates via the lower bowels.
  • More easily used within the body than oral forms of genistein.
  • Suppositories can be shipped with ice to ensure preservation of shape and potency.

What is Genistein and Why is it so Heavily Studied?

Phytoestrogens are plant derived compounds which act similarly to estrogen in certain instances within the body.1 Isoflavones are a particular classification of phytoestrogen which are found in high concentrations within soybeans. Genistein is perhaps the most primary of the soy isoflavones. Not only does it display phytoestrogenic properties, it has also been shown to function as a powerful antioxidant within the body, making it an extremely versatile nutrient if harnessed effectively.

Genistein has been heavily studied as a result of its greater presence within the Japanese diet (roughly 200 mgs of isoflavones per day!) when compared to western diets. The Japanese population has been shown as far less susceptible to a number of serious health concerns. Respectively, the lifespan of the average Japanese person is thought to be the longest of all national populations. Many have studied the effects of genistein to determine whether or not it is a significant factor in the superior health of the Japanese people.

Phytoestrogen and Antioxidant Support

As a phytoestrogen, genistein is able to perform some of the roles that estrogen plays within the body. Perhaps the most important of these roles is the activation of estrogen receptors. These receptors are found within the cells of the human body. Because they function at a cellular level, estrogen receptors are vital to a number of bodily systems, ranging from the cardiovascular system to the immune system, as well as DNA regulation. They must have a stable supply of estrogen and phytoestrogen in order to operate at their fullest. Genistein is thought to be one of the most effective phytoestrogen for supporting this function.2,3

Genistein is also widely regarded for having the most effective antioxidant properties of all the isoflavones. Antioxidants are substances, either produced within the body or ingested, which neutralize free radicals before they can generate harmful oxidative stress in cells across multiple bodily systems. Not only does it support the neutralization of free radicals, genistein has also been shown to aid in the production of fellow antioxidant superoxide dismutase through AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation and increased chromosome 10 (PTEN) pathway expression. 4 For all these reasons, genistein is thought to support the body in its natural capabilities for eliminating oxidative stress and preventing future accumulations.
