A Brief Overview of Methylation and Homocysteine

Methylation is one of the most vital and underappreciated natural biochemical processes in the human body. In a nutshell, methylation is the transfer of a methyl group consisting of one carbon atom and three hydrogen atoms (CH3) to a substrate. That may still sound very complicated, but you don’t need a Phd in chemistry to understand the important role that this fundamental biochemical process plays in the human body.

Dosage and Use:

• Take 1-3 capsules daily or as recommended by your health practitioner.

Caution: 5-methyl-tetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) supplementation is not recommended concurrently with methotrexate cancer therapy, as it can interfere with methotrexate’s anti-neoplastic activity; however, 5-MTHF has not been shown to interfere with the anti-inflammatory activity of methotrexate. An individual taking methotrexate for psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis can safely take a supplement containing folate.
