Synergy is a process of multiple elements interacting in a system to produce a different effect or one greater than the sum of their individual effects. The word comes from the Greek word synergia meaning “working together.” One coach I played for used to say “play your position and the team will be more effective.” The team concept is very important and it is no different in nutrition.
Teamwork at the supper table: Vitamin C from citrus fruits and dark-green vegetables enhances the body’s absorption of iron found in lean meats, fish, and beans when these foods are eaten at the same time. This is an example that is called “food synergy.” Eating good fat with your vegetables helps your body absorb their protective phytochemicals, like lycopene from tomatoes and lutein from dark-green vegetables.
Teamwork with your supplements: Three B vitamins (folic acid, vitamin B-6, and B-12) taken together reduce levels of an amino acid that, in high levels, is thought to damage artery linings, leading to heart attacks and strokes. Taking a good B complex vitamin is important. Vitamin A and D work well together and have a very positive effect on our immune system. A good multivitamin is an excellent way to achieve good results as well.
Teamwork is sublime: It is wonderful when everything works together. Just like when we work together in harmony with those in our home toward a common goal it makes life richer for everyone. I am thankful for my wife and son and the teamwork we have in our home. I certainly wish you and your family the best. As it has been wisely said, “teamwork makes the dream the work.”
Teamwork with your strategy: It is good to plan out your health goals and how you are going to achieve them. Your diet, supplements and exercise program should all work together in helping you achieve optimal health. We at DR Vitamin Solutions are always eager to help in any way we can. We have a very knowledgeable and friendly staff ready to assist.
