Practical Steps to Detoxification Part IV

Previous entries to this series took an introductory look at toxins and basic methods for preventing toxic overload, like kidney and liver detoxification. Part IV picks up this line with a detailed look at the importance and proper methods of a colon cleanse. We’ll also cover the importance of nourishing the body during and after detox, as well as the cleansing uses of a nice, relaxing bath.

Step Eight: Purging the Colon

Colon cleanse: I suggest doing a colon cleanse once or twice a year. When the colon gets clogged our elimination is not functioning properly. When younger, our bowel movements were long and wide which is normal and quick without straining. When the bowels are short, narrow and broken up our colon is clogged.

Calibrate (flush) formula: This will help determine how much ascorbate you need each day. Take one scoop (2,000 mg) of Pharmax ascorbate every 15 minutes until you calibrate. Multiply the amount it takes to flush by ¾ or 75% and that is the amount you would take daily. Divide into 2 to 4 doses daily or if you need more than 10 grams mix in quart of water and sip throughout the day. This flushes toxins out of body and is better than bowel tolerance method. Do again in a few weeks and your amount to calibrate should be lower.

Step Nine: Plan to Replenish Nutrients

You are going to lose nutrients when you do detoxification. It is important that these are replaced because the goal is to do detoxification safely, slowly and sensibly. This must be done on a daily basis and you use quality supplements to help the nutrients that you need during this detoxification period.

Step Ten: A Purifying Bath

For this you would use Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) and baking soda which should be aluminum free. Add three cups of Epsom salt and a half cup of baking soda in warm water in your bath tub. Put the salt in under the spout in the tub so it dissolves better. If you use a thermometer to check the temperature make sure it is a non-mercury one. You are doing this for detoxification, but it will have other benefits as well. 12 minutes of soaking will reduce inflammation, muscle aches, tension and muscle cramps. 20 minutes of soaking “may soften skin, reduce inflammation, and strengthen the skin barrier to keep skin hydrated.” (13) It also can have a relaxing effect reducing stress as well.
