It is important to understand the ingredients used in supplements to reverse gray hair.

While some people don’t mind their gray hair, others would rather return to their natural color. In the past, most people relied on hair dyes to restore darker, more natural hues to graying hair.

Today, however, people can opt for natural supplements to reverse gray hair instead. These supplements contain specific ingredients that have been shown to prevent hair from turning gray and/or restore gray hair’s original color. Some of the ingredients in these supplements to reverse gray hair also improve the health and thickness of hair.

Why Supplements Instead of Dye?

Hair dyes contain harmful chemicals that may cause allergic reactions, as well as other health problems. Supplements, on the other hand, provide safe, effective results for people without exposing them to substances that may be harmful. Some of the other benefits of these supplements include:

  1. Thicker, healthier hair.
  2. A return to natural hair color without salon treatments.
  3. Prevent healthy hair from ever turning gray.
  4. A younger appearance.

Common Ingredients

Below is a review of the ingredients commonly included in supplements to reverse gray hair.

Catalase

One of the most important ingredients found in the best gray hair supplements is Catalase. Recent scientific studies have shown that having low levels of Catalase in the body can cause hair to turn gray. When catalase levels are low, the body can’t break down hydrogen peroxide properly.

The excess hydrogen peroxide bleaches the hair from the inside out, causing it to turn white or gray. When an individual takes a supplement that contains Catalase, the body’s ability to break down hydrogen peroxide improves, and new hair will grow in with its original color.

Vitamin B-12

A Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause damage to your body. Premature gray hair is just a part of that damage. How much do you need? The average adult requires about 2.4 micrograms of Vitamin B12 each day. (1)

Nettle Root

Nettle root extract supports the health of the hair follicles. It also prevents the scalp from becoming too oily.

Fo-Ti

Fo-Ti is another herb recognized in Traditional Chinese Medicine for its ability to strengthen the kidneys and improve the quality of the blood, which may help reverse gray hair.

Palmetto

Many people who have gray hair also struggle with hair loss. For many of these people, hair loss occurs because of an overabundance of dihydrotestosterone, or DHT.

To combat this problem, some supplements to reverse gray hair also contain palmetto. Palmetto restricts certain enzymes that are responsible for converting testosterone to DHT. When levels of DHT are reduced, the individual will enjoy thicker, fuller hair.

PABA

PABA is a B vitamin. It works as an antioxidant, and it helps to build more red blood cells. It also prevents and reverses graying of hair for some people.

Biotin

Biotin, also called Vitamin H, is a star vitamin for hair health. Biotin deficiencies are often associated with premature gray hair.

A Biotin deficiency can cause also hair loss and thin, brittle, and splitting hairs, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Even though an actual deficiency of Biotin is rare, low levels of Biotin in the body can result in hair loss and the graying of hair because Biotin helps with the production of amino acids and cellular growth. Biotin’s a star for reversing the gray and early aging!

Vitamin B-6

Vitamin B6, also referred to as Pyridoxine, is a common component in many anti-gray hair supplements.

Vitamin B6 is beneficial for graying hair because it plays a role in protein metabolism, including the hair proteins we talked about earlier.

Studies have shown that a deficiency in vitamin B6 can cause hair to become thinner and grow more slowly. (2) Many gray hair supplements contain vitamin B6 to improve the thickness and growth of hair.

Folic Acid (Vitamin B9)

According to my research, a deficiency in folic acid can lead to a deficiency in melanin. (3) Without melanin, the body isn’t able to produce colored hair. Having the right amount of folic acid also improves the quality of hair.

Vitamin B9 deficiency is associated with symptoms like slower growing and graying hair. This is mainly because like it’s sister Vitamin B6, Vitamin B9 metabolizes and creates new proteins, and improves tissue growth and cells function.

B9 deficiency is common among individuals who have Irritable Bowel Syndrome or take certain medications.

Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5)

Pantothenic acid, or Vitamin B5, plays a role in the development of hair color. Vitamin B5 fights stress, a leading factor in acquiring gray hair. It does this by boosting your adrenal gland to produce hormones that combat your body’s stress levels. It also helps your body convert food into energy.

Adding pantothenic acid to the diet in the form of a supplement may reverse graying and/or prevent healthy hair from turning gray.

Zinc and/or Copper

Although rare, a deficiency in zinc or copper can cause gray hair. A study pointed to deficiencies in Zinc, Iron, Serum and Copper as primary ingredients to reverse gray hair. (4)

Horsetail

Horsetail acts as an anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant. This can be beneficial for people who struggle with thinning hair or hair loss.

L-Tyrosine

L-tyrosine is an essential amino acid that the body uses for a number of different functions. One of the functions of L-tyrosine is to aid in the production of melanin, which is required for the production of colored hair.

Plant Sterols

Plant sterols improve the quality of hair by making it thicker and stronger. This is helpful for people who have thin, brittle hair because of age or other issues.

Argan Oil

Argan oil an essential oil rich Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Vitamin E, which have been proven to reverse the appearance of aging.

The Omega 3 oils erode hydrogen peroxide, and as these essential oils and nutrients moisturize the scalp, your hair color will return.

To apply Argan oil, simply rinse your hair with a deep cleaning natural shampoo containing Biotin, Coconut Oil and Keratin. Apply a liberal amount of Argan Oil while the hair is damp and allow it to sit for a few minutes so the Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Biotin can work together.

Conclusion

Supplements with Catalase like Gray Hair Rescind paired with a healthy diet are two natural ways to reverse gray hair. In part, that’s because certain supplements and foods can decrease the overabundance of hydrogen peroxide in your body.
