What is Hydrogen?
Hydrogen is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas found naturally in low concentrations in the earth’s atmosphere. It doesn’t react with most compounds, but is found in one very common and life sustaining substance: water.
The Power of Science
Naturally occurring water is composed of 2 parts oxygen and 1 part hydrogen (abbreviated chemically as H2O), and while water in itself is good for you it doesn’t contain enough hydrogen to have major effects. Luckily, scientific advancements have made it possible to greatly increase this amount by infusing water with molecular hydrogen (H2). This is done by dissolving hydrogen gas into water under high atmospheric pressure at room temperature, creating water with no noticeable change in taste, color, or smell that contains levels of H2 which can improve one’s overall health in a variety of ways, including but not limited to:
- Antioxidant Properties
- Slows Aging
- Cancer Prevention
- Healthy Metabolism
Hydrogen: The Superior Antioxidant
Unlike most antioxidants, H2 rapidly dissolves into tissues and cells, penetrating biomembranes, and effectively reaching cellular organs such as the nucleus and mitochondria. Amazingly, H2 can do this without disturbing healthy cell processes or eliminating the proper functions of free radicals. Free radicals, also called reactive oxygen species or ROS, are needed in healthy cell functions but can cause ill effects when they are produced excessively through what is called oxidative stress.
What Is Oxidative Stress?
Oxidative stress is a disruption of the proper balance of free radicals and the body’s antioxidant defenses. It occurs in two forms, acute and persistive. Acute oxidative stress is short term but more severe while persistive occurs regularly over long periods of time and is less severe. The acute form of this stress is experienced the most in patients undergoing surgery while persistive oxidative stress is experienced by many frequently if not daily through common means such as:
- Intense Exercises
- Regular UV and Air Pollution Exposure
- Everyday Physical and Psychological Stress
- Cellular Aging Processes
Negative Effects of Persistive Oxidative Stress
Persistive oxidative stress also effects the metabolism, which can cause obesity and other weight related diseases.
There are many different ways of consuming hydrogen, such as directly inhaling the gas, drinking hydrogen infused water using Quicksilvers H2 Elite, taking a hydrogen bath, or receiving hydrogen saline intravenously. Out of all of these methods, drinking hydrogen infused water has been shown to be the most potent and effective over long periods of time in protecting cells against persistive oxidative stress. It is portable and easy to consume, and can be purchased in tablet form that one could dissolve in water themselves, such as Quicksilver H2 Elite.
Long term use of hydrogen infused water allows the body to protect itself, as the hydrogen protects cells from environmental stressors and slows the aging process without harming any of the positive cell functions. This can lead to a longer and healthier life, almost like a real version of the fabled fountain of youth!
